Man pronounced dead at Ocala hospital after crash of vehicle possibly connected to theft case

A 22-year-old man who had been riding as a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into another vehicle was pronounced dead Sunday at Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Vaughn Monson

He has been identified as Vaughn Monson of Bradenton.

He had been riding in a 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by 26-year-old Altione Walker of Ocala, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. Sunday on State Road 200 at 66th Street.

The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating the crash scene on Sunday morning.

Deputies believed the vehicle was possibly connected to an active theft case, and deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from deputies and they did not pursue it, according to the sheriff’s office.

The fleeing vehicle struck a 2006 Ford Freestyle driven by 62-year-old Curtis Brewer of Ocala.

Walker and two other men in the vehicle were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition, the sheriff’s office indicated. Brewer was conscious and speaking to deputies at the scene and was transported to West Marion Hospital.
