Walter Vincent Morey

Walter V. Morey, Jr., 83, of The Villages, FL, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at The Villages Hospice House with his loving wife Liz at his side.  He was born April 1, 1934 in Milford, Massachusetts to the late Walter V. Morey, Sr. and Dorothy (Shirland) Morey.

Walter served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.  Serving as Company Clerk, he often referred to himself the “Radar O’Riley” of his unit.

Walter moved to Florida in 1984 to escape the New England winters. He met and married Liz, the love of his life in 1987. They were privileged to raise grandson Peter, who was Walter’s pride and joy, as their very own son from age 4.

Walter spent his lifetime in the construction industry, beginning as an electrician In Milford, Massachusetts.  After moving to Florida, he was employed by Sarasota County Government, beginning first as an electrical inspector, then as building plans examiner and eventually retiring as the Building Code Official in 2004.  Walter remained active as a building code consultant, taught continuing education for the construction industry and served as director of homeowners’ associations.

Walter and Liz moved to The Villages in 2007 enjoying the lifestyle and making new friends who became their extended family. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages where he was part of the worship server team and felt honored to be a communion server for as long as he was able.

He was preceded in death by his parents, adopted daughter Roswitha Gugliemi, and his sister Ellen Morey.

Walter is survived by his wife Liz, daughters Patricia Salvatori (Anthony) and Susan Hollabaugh (Scott), a son, a very special grandson Rev. Peter Morey, Jr. (Megan), step-sons John Wellslager (Chris) and Steven Wellslager (Trina), 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages on Tuesday, December 12th at 11 a.m.
