Villager continues to dog PWAC official in turf war over pet exercise area

A resident continues to dog a Project Wide Wide Advisory Committee member in an ongoing turf war over an unsanctioned pet exercise area.

Marilyn Iskra, of the Village of Osceola Hills at Soaring Eagle, on Thursday at the Community Development District 10 board meeting challenged an assessment of the turf by CDD 10 Chairman Don Wiley, who also serves on PWAC. Iskra rallied fellow dog owners after learning of PWAC’s original decision in favor of the fence.

Earlier this week, PWAC backed down on a controversial plan for a $5,700 fence at the ad hoc dog park.

In his PWAC recap for fellow CDD 10 members, Wiley reported there had been “significant discussion of the fence.” But in the end “some supervisors decided to back away from it,” he said.

Wiley, an avid drone pilot, has submitted aerial images that he says shows that the turf at the three-acre parcel is in peril.

“The grass is normally an inch in height, now it’s a quarter inch in height,” Wiley said.

Iskra countered that damage wasn’t coming from Villagers using the green space.

“It appears there are a lot of weeds out there and the grass is being cut very, very short,” she said.

An assessment of the turf will be done at a future date by Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management in consultation with contractors used by The Villages.
