Man pushes cart full of stolen merchandise out of Winn-Dixie store in The Villages

Police were called after a man pushed a cart full of stolen merchandise out of the Winn-Dixie grocery store at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

The man at about 6 p.m. July 21 pushed the cart loaded with items from the store out into the parking lot and loaded them into a Dodge SUV, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The man got into the passenger side of the vehicle. Another man was at the wheel and he drove away.

The store’s manager, who had been notified by a store employee of what was happening, was able to take down the SUV’s license plate. However, the license plate was traced to an “uncooperative” woman in Winter Garden, the report indicated.

The value of the items taken was $233. The investigation continues.
