‘Puzzle’ searches for life’s meaning gathered from small pieces

Agnes (Kelly Macdonald) has fulfilled her duties as wife and mother as described by the Catholic church. She has a loving, devoted husband and two grown sons whose life paths seem to be pointed in the right direction. Her only problem is, “What about me?”

For her birthday, she receives a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. Surprisingly, she fits the pieces together with amazing ease. As a reward for herself, she buys another. In the puzzle store is a sign posted by “Robert” asking for a partner to join him in puzzle competitions. She responds.

Robert (Irrfan Kahn) is charming and living a life at ease off royalties from a past invention. The team of Robert and Agnes fits together like two pieces jig-sawed adjacently. They win the Atlantic City pairs contest. Romance is inevitable.

For the first time in her life, Agnes feels that she is living her own life for herself. She makes a critical, life-changing decision.

“Puzzle” is well acted and scripted. The movie is American, but originally created as an Argentine movie. Foreign films concentrate on the characters and less on the plot. I rate this show as a B-plus. It is currently playing at the Rialto Theater in The Villages.
