Village of St. Charles home falls into neglect after owner passes away

A Village of St. Charles home has fallen into neglect months after its owner passed away.

The home is located at 1709 Hollow Branch Way and was the subject of a public hearing Friday before the Community Development District 8 Board of Supervisors.

Donald R. Hensley purchased the Designer home for $270,000 in 2016.

1709 Hollow Branch Way

The Cincinnati, Ohio native died at age 72 on Jan. 16 at his home in The Villages. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years. Hensley served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake.

His home now appears to be vacant and the utilities have been turned off.

On July 11, Community Standards received a complaint about overgrown grass and weeds. The complaint was verified the following day.

The CDD 8 board found the owner in violation of deed compliance. The district will maintain the yard twice a month at a cost of $100 each time. A series of fines also will be imposed.

That same day, the CDD 8 board also dealt with another case of a dead homeowner and overgrown grass and weeds. That home was located in the Village of Tamarind Grove.
