Lake County sheriff’s deputy arrested on sexual battery charges

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on charges of sexual battery, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest stems from an incident alleged to have happened on New Year’s Day.
Deputy Sheriff Matthew Donnelly was arrested Wednesday evening.
A woman filed a complaint with the sheriff’s office following an encounter she said she had with Donnelly early on the morning of New Year’s Day.
The woman told investigators the she and her boyfriend were out celebrating New Year’s Eve in Orlando and that during the evening she passed out from drinking too much.
Investigators said the woman’s boyfriend flagged down Donnelly to get help for his passed-out girlfriend.
he woman told investigators that Donnelly began to grope her and make inappropriate comments. She said he told her he would not take her boyfriend to jail. She said she was scared and felt like she had to cooperate.
Reports indicated the in-car camera video had been turned off.
