Trapped kittens plucked from storm drain by team of specialized firefighters

Lake County firefighters were called into action Sunday after small kittens became trapped in a stormwater drain.

Crews from Lake County Fire Rescue turned the rescue kittens over to Lake County Animal Control on Sunday after pulling them from a storm drain in the Four Corners/Citrus Ridge area.

Lake County Fire Rescue crews from Tower 112 and Squad 9, along with Battalion 90, responded to the stormwater drain in a neighborhood near the Four Corners/Citrus Ridge area. The drain potentially contained hazardous gases, so firefighters monitored the air inside it while locating the kittens via camera.

Once that was done, members of the department’s Technical Rescue Team, who have specialized training in confined spaces, entered the drain. They were then able to rescue the kittens and bring them to safety. They were then turned over to officials from the Lake County Animal Shelter.
