Green New Deal will not meet America’s energy needs

To the Editor:

Reference H.Res.109 or see the Green New Deal and analysis by Zachary B. Wolf at CNN-Politics, 2/14/2019.  The Green New Deal subjects range from “Transportation ” to Trade unions.”
Reducing emissions is a good idea, whether you believe in man made global warming  or not.  And, we are reducing emissions, dramatically, every year. A fundamental question for the Green New Deal is where do we get the materials to produce all the batteries for the program?  We will need massive amounts of nickel, cobalt, manganese, graphite, and aluminum to manufacture storage batteries.  All of these essential materials are imported. They are subject to scarcity, prohibitive costs, and international politics.
The Green New Deals’ renewable energy is described as “meeting 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources.” Sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, geothermal-heat, and hydro power will never meet 100 percent of our real time electricity demand, even if we could afford it.  With-out adequate battery storage reserves, we would live like third world countries suffering continuous power outages.  The only green thing about this “Green New Deal” is our money and the only renewable power is for the socialists proposing it!
Will Rogers said; “I can remember way back when a liberal was generous with his own money.”  How times have changed.
