The Amenity Authority Committee is set to discuss spending more than $100,000 for a restroom at a gate – that doesn’t have arms.
The Shay Gate on the Historic Side of The Villages is the only gate shack that doesn’t have a restroom for the attendant.
“Currently staff must walk down to US 441 at all hours of the day/night in order to utilize a restroom facility at a commercial convenience store,” Sam Wartinbee, of District Property Management, wrote in a memo to the AAC.
The estimated cost of adding a restroom is $135,000 to $165,000.
In addition to not having a restroom, the Shay Gate is unique in that it does not have arms for an attendant to raise or lower.
The AAC is scheduled to take up the topic when its members meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Savannah Center.
You can share your thoughts on the proposed expenditure ahead of the AAC meeting, by submitting a Letter to the Editor.
