Spruce Creek South man discovers he’s victim of credit card fraud

A Spruce Creek South man called a Marion County sheriff’s deputy for help Tuesday after realizing he was the victim of fraud.

The man, who lives in the 17500 block of SE 95th Circle, told the deputy that he was notified about suspicious charges on one of his credit cards. He said when he checked the account, he noticed multiple charges that he didn’t authorize, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man said the charges had taken place over the last few weeks and he didn’t notice because he doesn’t check his account very often. He said the credit card had been canceled and a new one was being issued.

The man also identified a person he believed was involved in the fraud but told the deputy he wasn’t sure where that person could be located. The name of that person and relationship to the man were redacted from the police report.

The deputy told the man that he needed to provide statements showing when and where the fraudulent charges took place so he could get a better understand of what had taken place. Another deputy then stopped by the man’s house and picked up the statements, the report says, adding that investigation remains active.
