Man in stolen car apprehended after crashing on U.S. 301 in Sumter County

Johnathon Scott Napper

A man in a stolen car was apprehended after crashing on U.S. 301 in Sumter County.

Johnathon Scott Napper, 32, of Ocala, was driving a dark blue Buick LaCrosse and was being pursued after running a stop sign in Pasco County when on Sunday evening he entered into Sumter County. The stolen car was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on U.S. 301 with a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy in pursuit.

The Buick crashed into some bushes while Napper was “recklessly” attempting to pass vehicles on the grass shoulder along the roadway, according to an arrest report. Napper was apprehended after a short foot chase.

A check revealed Napper’s license had been revoked Jan. 4, 2018 for a controlled substance violation.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $13,500 bond.
