Pump station failure leaves large section of The Villages under boil water order

The failure of a pump station Sunday afternoon left Villagers without water from County Road 466A down to Brownwood.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for all residents and businesses in The Villages within the Central Sumter Utility in Community Development District 9, Community Development District 10 and Brownwood due to the malfunction, which caused the system pressure to drop below 20 psi throughout the water system

Residents at about 3 p.m. began inundating Community Watch with calls complaining about low to no water pressure at their homes. Meanwhile, restaurants and other businesses at Brownwood were forced to turn customers away due to the loss of water pressure.

Crews from Jacobs were dispatched and quickly switched operation to another pump station. By 4 p.m., residents were reporting that water had been restored. Recreation centers that had planned to close their doors quickly reversed course and decided to stay open.

Villages impacted included Sanibel, Fernandina, Gilchrist, Charlotte, LaBelle and Osceola Hills.
