A competency evaluation has been ordered for a Village of Fenney woman who was arrested in March after an alleged scissor attack of her husband over “marital issues.”
Theresa Ann Barton, 60, of 5841 Graham Court, is facing a charge of battery, following her arrest this past St. Patrick’s Day. Her husband told police that his wife took a pair of garden scissors from him and “struck him multiple times with them,” according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.
He said that he and his wife were “having a verbal altercation in reference to marital issues that has been going on for some time,” the officer wrote in the report.
A judge has since ordered that a psychologist conduct a competency evaluation with regard to Barton’s state of mind.
Barton’s husband in March had sought an order of project against his wife, who stands 5 feet tall and weighs 130 pounds. It was dismissed in Sumter County Court. However, this past Monday he made a second appeal for a protective order and was granted a temporary injunction. Barton was served with the notice earlier this week.
At the time of her arrest, the North Carolina native said she had learned her husband was attempting to remove her from his bank accounts.
“She became visibly upset,” the report said.
She admitted she pushed her husband “because of how upset she was.”
Barton remains free on $500 bond.
