A naked woman was arrested after allegedly terrorizing customers in the parking lot at the new Aldi grocery store at U.S. 301 and County Road 466 in Oxford.

The woman, later identified as 29-year-old Mandie Michelle West of Eustis, “was completely naked,” according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

West got into a car in the parking lot at about noon Friday in which a woman’s 17-year-old autistic son was sitting in the passenger seat while his mother was shopping in the store. West attempted to drive the vehicle away, but the mother returned to the vehicle and sat on West to prevent her from putting the car into gear, the report said. West scratched the woman’s forearms before fleeing the vehicle.

West, who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds, ran at other bystanders in the parking lot “in an aggressive manner.” People began to get into their cars and lock the doors, fearing they would be her next target.

West was able to get into a vehicle whose driver believed that she was in some kind of distress. He provided a shirt to West. The vehicle traveled for some distance before West “jumped from the vehicle down the road and began running through yards,” the report said.

Officers caught up with West and arrested her in the yard of a residence.

She was booked on charges of simple assault and burglary with assault or battery. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $26,500 bond.
