84-year-old Stonecrester arrested on DUI charge in The Villages

An 84-year-old Stonecrest resident was arrested Wednesday evening on a charge of driving under the influence while driving on Morse Boulevard near Lake Sumter Landing.

Lawrence C. Smith was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy after his vehicle crossed over the center line while he was driving on Morse Boulevard.

Smith told the deputy he had consumed two to three bottles of Budweiser at Market Square.

He failed field sobriety exercises and was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where he gave breath samples that registered a blood alcohol content of .111 and .110.

He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and ticketed on a charge of failure to maintain a single lane.

Bond was set at $1,000.
