Next Villages Honor Flight scheduled to take off Oct. 5

The next Villages Honor Flight is scheduled for Oct. 5.

The first pre-flight meeting of veterans was held Aug. 26.

“All of the veterans served during WWII, and show the enthusiasm and anticipation excitement as those who have flown before them,” said John Driscoll of Villages Honor Flight.

The sendoff from American Legion Post 347  is scheduled for about 4:30 a.m. Oct. 5 and return  bout 10:30 p.m. Homecoming activities at the American Legion will begin about 9:30 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by Ralph DiNome and Betsy Starr, the Villages Cheerleaders, Prime Time Twirlers and Clowns.

“Everyone is encouraged to come out. Bring a flag, chair and friend,” Driscoll said.

The waiting list of World War II  vets to fly has shortened after our 2013 flights are completed. he added.

“If you know a World War II who has not completed an application and registered, now is the time to do so as it is likely they will fly in 2014.

Veteran applications are available at http://www.villageshonorflight.org/ or call (352) 432-1382 and an application will be mailed out.

If you want to help Villages Honor Flight, you can take part in the Oct. 12 Golf Scramble. Details about that event are also available at the website.
