Parking at a premium with shoppers and snowbirds out in force

Ray Schroer of the Village of Tamarind Grove could hardly believe his eyes.

He arrived Monday at Best Buy at the Villages Crossroads shopping center and found a SUV with out-of-state plates hogging four parking spaces.

“I am sick of the way these people drive/park. I have been here four and a half years, but I do remain sane, unlike most,” the Buffalo, N.Y. native said.

With Black Friday on the horizon and snowbirds flocking to The Villages in drove, parking is at a premium.

The District Office has launched a two-pronged offensive to discourage golf carts from being parked on sidewalks and in other unauthorized areas. First the District began placing orange cones along sidewalks and at handicapped access points  at the squares. Community Watch has already begun placing red and black “WARNING” signs on vehicles parked in unauthorized areas. The warnings reference District Rules and are designed to educate vehicle operators of their parking infractions.
