A Villager’s 38-year-old son who groped a service station attendant and spit at a veterinary clinic worker in the same month, has been sentenced in the two cases.
Keith N. Barnum, who resides with his mother on Roseapple Avenue on the Historic Side of The Villages, appeared to have been intoxicated in the early morning hours of July 18 when he “began smacking” the buttocks of the Circle K attendant, according to a police report. He had asked her to pull down her pants and have sex with him. The clerk had no previous relationship with Barnum. He was released with a notice to appear in court.
About a week later, Barnum was in a golf cart at about 7:30 a.m. when he began tailgating an employee of The Villages Veterinary Clinic on LaGrande Boulevard. The woman, who was on her way to work, rolled down her window to ask Barnum what was wrong. He complained that she had driven through a puddle and splashed him. He then used vulgar language toward her and spit at her. She became fearful and police were summoned. Barnum, who appeared to be intoxicated, was arrested on a charge of battery. He had also reportedly used insulting language toward the arresting officer.
This past week in Lake County Court, Barnum was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on probation for one year. He was also ordered to seek an alcohol evaluation and undergo recommended treatment. He was also told to undergo eight hours of anger management counseling.
