Florida’s two United States senators are split on an upcoming vote for President Trump’s embattled Supreme Court nominee.
Both U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio have signaled how they will vote in the wake of riveting testimony this past week from Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the woman who has accused him of a teenage sexual assault, Christine Blasey Ford.
Not surprisingly, Nelson and Rubio are split down party lines.
Republican Rubio said he refuses to “give credence” to Blasey Ford. He has indicated he will be voting in favor of Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Nelson, a Democrat, on Friday tweeted that he will be voting against Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
That prompted a taunting tweet from Nelson’s Republican rival for the U.S. Senate, Gov. Rick Scott.
“You were always going to do exactly what your party leaders told you to do. You decided no before you even knew who the nominee was. Your vote does not even belong to you — it belongs to Sen. [Chuck] Schumer,” Scott tweeted.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-10 Friday afternoon to send the nomination to the full Senate for a vote. But that vote will be delayed for at least a week, as U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., demanded an investigation by the FBI in exchange for his vote to send it out of committee.
