With the noticeable increase in traffic with the return of the snowbirds, it might be time to brush up on your roundabout skills.
We’ve seen several recent accidents in roundabouts already this year:
• In October, a 77-year-old Villager was airlifted from the scene of a crash after his golf cart was struck in a roundabout by a Subaru Forrester driven by an 86-year-old Villager.
• The driver of a box truck was ticketed after an accident in September in a roundabout near Savannah Center in The Villages.
• A Summerfield man was recently sentenced in a crash that occurred in a roundabout after he had been drinking at City Fire.
• In July, Community Watch assisted in the arrest of a man behind the wheel of a golf cart who apparently got confused in a roundabout at Stillwater Trail and Morse Boulevard.
• In June, an 82-year-old Villager at the wheel of a golf cart was injured in a crash at the Morse Boulevard roundabout.
The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners, in cooperation with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, has developed an educational guide to navigating roundabouts in Sumter County.
