Villager can’t put up sign despite 50 dogs per day peeing on her lawn

The original sign the homeowner put up.

A Village of Virginia Trace woman is feeling helpless because at least 50 dogs each day are peeing on her lawn.

The woman spoke out Friday morning before the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors.

The woman purchased her home in 2007 and moved permanently in 2011 to the home in The Villages. Her backyard faces Canal Street.

Dogs constantly urinating on her grass have done considerable harm, forcing her to re-sod several times.

“I am not a dog hater, I love dogs. But the urine is hurting my grass,” she said.

Villages-News.com is not identifying the woman, as she is fearful of retaliation.

The homeowner presented evidence of damage to her lawn.

She put up a “friendly” sign encouraging dog walkers to keep their dogs off her grass. She was contacted by Community Standards and informed that the sign was in violation of her deed restrictions. She tried a smaller sign with the same result. She believes it was a dog walker who turned her in.

The homeowner used this smaller sign after being told to remove the larger sign.

“The sign really worked,” she said.

She said she does not want to “confront” the offenders.

Unfortunately, her supervisors couldn’t offer much more than sympathy.

“You can’t legislate good or courteous behavior,” said District Manager Richard Baier.
