A 63-year-old Villager was arrested after he allegedly stole and pawned jewelry belonging to a hospitalized Villager.

The victim had been transported to the hospital by EMS on May 12 after suffering an injury at her home on the Historic Side of The Villages. She had removed her jewelry and gave it to her friend, asking her to leave it on a table at her home.

When the woman was released from the hospital and returned home, she found the jewelry missing and notified the Lady Lake Police Department. Police discovered that the friend’s boyfriend, had pawned the jewelry on the same day the woman was transported to the hospital.

The boyfriend, Paul R. Cubeta of 923 St. Andrews Blvd., was arrested on charges of burglary and grand theft.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail and later released after posting $4,000 bond.

He is due for arraignment June 9 in Lake County Court.
