Donald A. ‘Donnie’ Collins

Donald “Donnie” A. Collins, Sr., 80, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on Monday. April 3,2017 while under the care of hospice. He was born February 20, 1937 to Stephen and Lillian (Lea) Collins in Brooklyn, NY. On January 31, 1959 he married his wife Eileen Ludlow in Brooklyn, NY. Donnie enjoyed pool, bowling, playing with his dog, Cricket and tinkering in the garage. Donald was a proud Veteran of the United States and a NYPD Transit Police Officer.
Survivors include wife of 58 years Eileen Collins; sister Gerry; daughters Theresa, Brenda and Corrine; daughter-in-law Jill, grandsons Chris, DJ, Patrick with his wife Ashley and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Nathaniel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stevie, Artie, Joey and Davey and his only son, Donald.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 1 – 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m, located at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL 32159. Inurnment will be private at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice (donate.cshospice.org) or the American Heart Association Research (donatenow.heart.org).
