Driver arrested after accident at Continental Country Club

A 54-year-old Wildwood woman was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following an accident at 7:40 p.m. Sunday at Continental Country Club in Wildwood.

Joanne Lee DeVries’ vehicle was discovered by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy near the edge of the pond at the country club, according to the arrest report.

Witnesses said she had missed a driveway, hit a ditch and then put her car into reverse and proceeded to drive the car across the roadway and into the pond, the arrest report indicated.

DeVries told the deputy she had consumed four rum and Cokes. She failed field sobriety exercises, according to the arrest report.

She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $500.
