Letter to the Editor: Recycling in The Villages

To the Editor:

I personally applaud the letter written by Maureen McCoy, entitled “Five U.S.Cities That Are Recycling Superstars”. I also enjoyed the meeting Maureen McCoy and I attended (with other Villages residents) on March 26, 2014, with John Rohan, Rec.&Golf,CDD, and Janet Tutt, District Manager, CDD, to discuss planning to increase recycling collections throughout The Villages, including town squares, rec. centers, pools, mail kiosks, etc. I, for one, look forward to continuing to meet with CDD representatives to help plan for the additional recycling opportunities in The Villages.
For now, I hope all residents participate in COUNTY-sponsored recycling opportunities. On Sat., Oct. 25, from 9-3, a resident can bring and dispose of unwanted, household hazardous materials, at Sumter Service Center. Call 352-569-6700 with questions.
Another COUNTY-sponsored opportunity includes bringing expired prescription Rx’s to Marion County: 352-732-8181;Sumter County:352-569-4600. 2013=collected 1,160 lbs.
