CDD 1 residents may have to foot $100,000 bill for removal of invasive species at Hudson Morse Parr Preserve

Community Development District 1 is looking at a more than $100,000 bill for wetlands work in the Hudson Morse Parr Preserve.

The removal of invasive species that have moved into the wetlands would be labor intensive, said District Property Manager Sam Wartinbee. The permit governing the wetlands would likely prohibit mechanized equipment, he said.

“We are probably going to have to make an assessment to pay for it,” said CDD 1 Supervisor Kathy Porter.

Because the project would have such a huge impact on the CDD 1 budget, supervisors indicated that might opt to delay the work. But they also said they wanted to hear from residents.

CDD 1 Supervisor Craig Estep told residents that the board wants to be responsive to residents’ concerns.

“We care about these issues but we want to be responsible with your money,” Estep said.

The topic will likely be the headline at a planned town hall meeting to be conducted by CDD 1 supervisors. The event, the date for which has not been determined, would likely be held at La Hacienda Recreation Center.
