70-year-old critically injured in two-vehicle collision

Two drivers were injured in two-vehicle collision Wednesday evening in Citrus County.

Seventy-year-old Raymond Wayne Adkins of Lecanto was traveling east in a 2005 Jeep F150 on the driveway entrance of the Wal-Mart parking lot at 1936 Lecanto Highway as he approached a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 491, while 29-year-old Theresa Elizabeth Newman of Homosassa was traveling south in the right lane of County Road 491, approaching the driveway of 1936 Lecanto Highway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Adkins failed to stop at the stop sign and continued driving east through the intersection into the direct path of Newman’s vehicle, causing the right front of Newman’s vehicle to crash into the left front of Adkins’ vehicle.

The report stated that Adkins was transported to Ocala Regional Hospital having suffered critical injuries, while Newman was transported to Citrus Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Charges are pending.
