Two ticketed in accident last week that prompted detours on County Road 466

A report from the Florida Highway Patrol is providing some insight into an accident last week that prompted detours on County Road 466.

Emergency personnel were on the scene of an accident on County Road 466 involving a landscaping trailer.
The driver of this truck told the Florida Highway Patrol he did not see this work crew stopped Sept. 6 on County Road 466.

A crew from Mike’s Maintenance had been collecting debris at about 11 a.m. Sept. 6 where Eric Eugene Welcome Jr., 23, of Wildwood, was working on the north shoulder of the roadway. He was not wearing a reflective vest and the crew had not put down orange cones on the roadway, the FHP report indicated. A 2003 Chevy Silverado truck driven by 30-year-old Corey Britt Eubanks of Leesburg struck a trailer being towed by the work crew’s truck, causing the trailer to become disconnected from the truck. Eubanks said he did not see the truck.

Welcome was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of the Mike’s Maintenance truck, 61-year-old Paul Michael Zablo of Wildwood, was ticketed on a charge of parking on a roadway outside of a municipality. Eubanks was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
