Woman killed in New Year’s Day accident in Lake County

A 20-year-old woman died at Ocala Regional Medical Center after her car left a roadway and struck a tree in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in Lake County.

Monica Everton of Palm Harbor had been at the wheel of a 2012 Hyundai at 2:10 a.m. at County Road 439 and County Road 44A when the accident occurred, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

She was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she later died.

Everton had not been wearing a seatbelt, the report noted.
