Pedestrian struck and killed in Pinellas County

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Pinellas County early Friday morning.

Eric Babcock, 29, of Clearwater was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla northbound in the center lane U.S. 19 approaching Ulmerton Road, while 53-year-old James Anthony Speaks of Pinellas Park was walking westbound across the northbound lanes of U.S. 19, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Speaks walked into the path of Babcock’s incoming vehicle, causing Babcock to collide with Speaks, the report stated.

Speaks died at the scene of the accident.
