Man jailed after allegedly stealing from employer to pay to feed his drug habit

Scott Michael Bailey

A 29-year-old Fruitland Park man was jailed after allegedly stealing from his employer to pay to feed his drug habit.

Scott Michael Bailey contacted law enforcement on Friday to report that someone stole a concrete saw from the bed of his company truck. The saw had a value of $1,350.

However, in a subsequent interview at the Fruitland Park Police Department, Bailey confessed that he sold the saw for $50 to purchase heroin and Xanax. He parked the company truck in his driveway, went into his home, took the drugs and passed out, according to an arrest report.

Bailey was arrested on charges of dealing in stolen property, grand theft and filing a false police report. He was booked on $8,000 bond at the Lake County Jail.

Bailey was arrested in 2016 after his girlfriend suffered injuries in an altercation and sought treatment at a local urgent care clinic.
