Convicted felon living in Village of Belvedere lands back behind bars

Tommy Harris

A convicted felon living in the Village of Belvedere has landed yet again back behind bars.

Tommy Harris, 55, who lives at 402 Thistledown Way, had been traveling in a red Ford F-150 that was pulled over Friday night by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and the dog alerted on the truck, indicating the likely presence of drugs. A pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was found tucked between the driver’s seat and the center console. Also found nearby was a piece of aluminum foil which contained heroin. Harris was found to have a clear plastic bag containing methamphetamine tucked in the pocket of his vest.

Harris was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Harris had been arrested last year after he stole aluminum from a home site in Oxford. At the time of his arrest, he was found to have a .44 caliber round of ammunition, one .357 caliber round, one 300 Winchester mag round and one shotgun shell in his truck.

At the time of that arrest, Harris was already a convicted felon in the state of Florida. He was convicted in 2012 on charges of burglary, theft and dealing in stolen property.
