Nephew armed with shovel arrested after alleged attack on his uncle

William Randall Jones

A nephew armed with a shovel was arrested after an alleged attack on his uncle.

William Randall Jones, 34, of Oxford, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery after the alleged attack, which occurred at a residence near the intersection of County Road 106 and County Road 108.

Jones’ uncle told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that his nephew on Tuesday morning removed a shovel from the bed of a truck and began swinging it at him, according to an arrest report.

The pair struggled and the uncle called out to Jones’ brother and his brother’s friend, who held Jones back so that law enforcement could be summoned.

The uncle suffered a cut on his forehead and on his right ear.

Jones turned himself in Thursday night at Bob’s Bail Bonds in Bushnell. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $3,000 bond.
