The number of new Coronavirus cases in the tri-county area significantly slowed Sunday, with no new patients being reported in The Villages for almost a week.
A total of 644 cases of COVID-19 have now been identified in the tri-county area. There have been 32 deaths and 131 people hospitalized.
Sumter County is reporting 226 cases among 164 men, 61 women and one non-resident. There have been 14 deaths and 41 people have been hospitalized.
Of those Sumter County cases, 70 are in The Villages, eight are in Wildwood, six are in the Lady Lake portion of the county and two are in Oxford. Bushnell, where the county seat is located and the population is just over 3,100 people, is reporting 106 cases, followed by Lake Panasoffkee (22), Webster (7), Coleman (3) and Sumterville (1).
A total of 2,031 Sumter County residents have been tested, with 1,805 negative results. Twenty-four people also are awaiting testing.
Of the residents who tested positive in Sumter County, 82 percent are white, 12 percent are black, one percent is listed as other and 5 percent are unknown. Five percent are Hispanic, 88 percent are non-Hispanic and the ethnicity of six percent is unknown.
Lake County is reporting 234 COVID-19 cases. Of those, 111 are men, 111 are women and 12 are non-residents. There have been 13 deaths and 62 people have required hospital care.
Of those Lake County cases, seven are in The Villages, 10 are in Lady Lake and 37 are in Leesburg. The majority – 81 – have been reported in Clermont, with other cases also being identified in Tavares (17), Eustis (16), Mount Dora (14), Groveland (14), Mascotte (12), Minneola (6), Sorrento (2), Okahumpka (1), Montverde (1), Umatilla (1), Howey-in-the-Hills (1), Grand Island (1) and Yalaha (1).
A total of 7,086 Lake County residents have been tested, with 6,852 negative results. Eight people also are awaiting testing.
Of the Lake County residents who tested positive, 50 percent are white, 14 percent are black, 31 percent are listed as other and 5 percent are unknown. Twenty-nine percent are Hispanic, 64 percent are non-Hispanic and 7 percent are unknown.
Marion County now has 184 Coronavirus cases divided among 79 men, 102 women and three non-residents. There have been five deaths and 28 people treated at area hospitals.
Of the Marion County cases, at least one is in The Villages and 23 are in Summerfield. The overwhelming majority – 130 – have been reported in Ocala, with other positive results in Citra (7), Dunnellon (7), Belleview (5), Anthony (3), Ocklawaha (4), Umatilla (1) and Reddick (1).
A total of 4,784 Marion County residents have been tested, with 4,598 coming back negative and two inconclusive. Another 75 people are awaiting testing.
Of the Marion County residents who have tested positive, 76 percent are white, 15 percent are black, 7 percent are listed as other and 2 percent are unknown. Eighty-two percent are non-Hispanic, 16 percent are Hispanic and the ethnicity of 2 percent is unknown.
All told, Florida has tested 429,970 people with 36,078 positive COVID-19 results. Of those, 35,158 are residents. There have been 1,379 deaths and 6,035 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
