Sex offender arrested after alleged theft of merchandise at Villages gas station

Brandon Brunberg

A sex offender was arrested after the alleged theft of merchandise at a gas station in The Villages.

Brandon Richard Brunberg, 33, of Leesburg, on Thursday morning took a bag of Wonderful Pistachios and a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich from Clark’s Pump and Shop at Lake Deaton Plaza, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The theft was captured on video surveillance. The manager said Brunberg had also stolen merchandise three other days this month.

The manager identified the suspect due to the employer’s work shirt he was wearing.

A deputy went to China Gourmet III at Colony Plaza at 12:40 p.m. Thursday and located Brunberg.

A check revealed that Brunberg had been convicted on a theft charge in 2016 in Orange County. He is also wanted on a warrant out of Wisconsin charging him with failure to register as a sex offender.

Brunberg was arrested on five counts of theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.

Earlier this year, a manager at Clark’s Pump and Shop at Lake Deaton Plaza helped nab a Chef-Boyardee ravioli thief, also thanks to the work-related clothing he was wearing.
