To the Editor:
On the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 6, I took my boyfriend to the emergency room at UF Health-The Villages Health on El Camino Real.
The Uber driver dropped us off at 11:08 p.m. We entered to an empty waiting room and his information was taken immediately. We were there for a dog bite to his wrist. I was surprised, when rather being taken immediately to be seen, we were asked to take a seat in the empty waiting room. We were there for a quite a while when a staff member noticed my boyfriend was showing signs of shock and offered him a warm blanket. I noticed that most of the visible staff was busy discussing their weekend activities and no medical work seemed to be getting done. One employee mentioned it was “cute” that my boyfriend had fallen asleep on my shoulder. If a person is in shock aren’t you supposed to keep them awake? We were finally brought into an exam room, where his wound was given a brief look at. They placed bandage sutures on both cuts and gave him a prescription for antibiotics. The release papers listed the bite on his left arm. It was on his right arm. The prescriptions weren’t sent over to the pharmacy, we had to take them there, no antibiotic shot was given, even though animal bites get infected easily. Our Uber picked us up at 12:58 a.m. and I truly feel the wrapping I did of his arm, that was complimented by the hospital, would have been fine until we saw his own doctor in the morning.
I am here from N.J. and our emergency rooms are usually packed and very busy, but you get treated by professional staff and leave feeling you are going to get better. This was kindergarten doctoring at its best.
