Maureen Franklin

Maureen Catherine Marshall Franklin died on January 15 from glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, age 91 (but she didn’t look a day over 80).

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gerry and sister Sheila, and survived by her son Glenn, grandson Steven, granddaughter Tabitha, and many other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and shortly after her marriage in 1958 she fled the cold to Los Angeles, California, where she and Gerry lived for over 30 years. They moved to Florida, first Sarasota, then The Villages, where she was active in the Shoebox Program, which sent gift packages to troops deployed overseas, and other neighborhood activities.

Maureen will be remembered as a loving, kind, and wise person who was a mom to everyone. She was everyone’s favorite friend/aunt/grandma. She had a great voice (“Bill Bailey” and “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” were her favorites) and an even greater soul, and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the people at The Palms of Largo and Suncoast Hospice for their care and compassion in the last months of Maureen’s life.
