Donald Trump supporters filled a section of Gator’s Dockside in Spanish Springs Town Square and cheered as they kicked off their celebration for the country’s new president Friday evening.
Trump supporters, notably Sumter County Campaign Manager Bill Garner and Women for Trump leader Sue Cianci, coordinated the party to celebrate their hard-fought efforts in campaigning for President Trump.
More than 50 people showed up for the celebration.
While televisions offered live coverage of the inauguration parade in D.C., partygoers watched and discussed their excitement for the next four years.
“Drain the swamp,” said Village of Palo Alto resident Ken Bowgren who also expressed how happy he was to see Donald Trump officially become president.
His wife, Mary Ellen, said one of the major issues she hopes the new president will tackle is the containment of ISIS.
Other partiers shared their happiness, such as Villager Bev Johnson.
“It feels great,” she said. Johnson later remarked on all the politicians who decided not to attend, calling it a “shame” that they do not realize the importance of Friday’s historic event.
As for President Trump’s inaugural speech, many of his supporters could not have asked for more.
“He said exactly what needed to be said,” said Garner. He later stated that the speech was truly for all people as it maintained the same message President Trump used while campaigning and included populist rhetoric.
In regard to those who protested, Garner said that Trump “will put them back to work.”
“I am looking forward to Donald Trump bringing jobs back to America, support our local police systems across the county, stop the influx of illegal immigrants flooding across our borders,” said Village of Bonita resident Sandy Bagby.
She also anticipates President Trump creating solid trade deals “that look out for Americans,” fixing the healthcare program and improving infrastructure in cities.
Toward the end of the event, Garner gave a brief speech to thank the supporters for all their hard work to help get Donald Trump to the White House.
He also urged attendants to stay in touch with those in Congress and encouraged them to write to politicians to ensure that President Trump receives the support he needs as he leads the country.
