In a subsequent interview with a Sumter County sheriff’s detective, Curtis admitted to stealing a 2011 Yamaha golf cart earlier this year from the parking lot of Freedom Pointe in The Villages. When confronted with surveillance images taken in that incident, Curtis said he doesn’t usually wear a hat and sunglasses, but had picked them up at a nearby business before entering the parking garage.

He said he later sold the stolen golf cart in Marion County. He indicated he had been involved in other golf cart thefts.

Curtis said he had been stealing golf carts because of a drug abuse problem.

He was arrested on two counts of vehicle theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $6,000.
