Where’s Bing Crosby when you need him?

To the Editor:
If I may paraphrase an old saying, “Where were you in 72?” There was a theatrer in New York named The Palladium. I went to an Acid Rock concert there in 72. You haven’t heard loud until you attended one of these shows! You didn’t know if you were going deaf or blind at the same time.
Here’s the rub. No one is out there today doing Bing Crosby or Perry Como Tribute tours. Even Rich Little didn’t do them here. What’s wrong with listening to How Are Things In Glocca Morra or Catch a Falling Star by Bing or Perry? Seen any Mills Brothers or Ink Spots groups making the rounds? Now that is easy music on the ears, but it seems you can only catch them now and then on Sirius radio, and who wants to sit in their car all day hoping to hear them?
Have you noticed the growth of hearing aid stores in The Villages? These ear doctors must have been fans of The Grateful Dead and other groups that practiced in the subway stations to see if they could be heard over the trains. They knew then what a great career path that was, as everybody was going to be hard of hearing down the road.
If only the Entertainment Department could find a Bing or Perry Tribute group or two, we’d be in our listening glory.
