Removal of Confederate flags and statues

To the Editor:

Let me begin by saying I understand the sentiments of those that want Confederate statues and flags removed.
To many people, those symbols represented those who supported the continuation of slavery and the withdrawal from the United States.
I understand the sentiments of those who would not tolerate the symbols or statues of anything that represented nazi Germany.
So, why today am I watching, without protest, the waving of hundreds of “rising sun” flags at the Little League World Series? I really don’t get it. Didn’t that symbol represent torture and death to thousands of people throughout the world, including us Americans?
I know, someone is going to say that the rising sun is the national flag of Japan and we don’t stop Germans or Italians from flying the flags of their respective countries just because they fought a war against us.
Well, the Confederate flag was the flag of the CSA (Confederate States of America).
That was the “country” of those states that seceded from the union.  If we allow the Japanese, Germans and Italians to fly their flags on American soil, should the ancestors of the Confederate States of America veterans have that same privilege? I’m sure ancestors of Americans that were tortured or killed during the Bataan Death march might object to the Japanese waving their flag in our country. Does ISIS have a flag that will ever be allowed to fly in any civilized country?
