Woman arrested in theft of merchandise from Lowe’s admits she made a ‘stupid mistake’

Tosha Marie Lopez

A 44-year-old woman arrested in the theft of merchandise from Lowe’s home improvement in Lady Lake, admitted to law enforcement she made a “stupid mistake.”

Tosha Marie Lopez of Summerfield entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and was spotted on video surveillance, picking up a 20-ounce Mountain Dew, which she purchased, and a bag of M&Ms, which she did not purchase, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The Michigan native then began eating the M&Ms.

She then selected some metal hooks and Glade air freshener which she concealed in a blue jean purse she was carrying. She left the store with $32.58 in merchandise which she had not purchased.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, Lopez admitted, “It was a stupid mistake.”

A check revealed she had no prior theft convictions.

She was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $500 bond.
