Woman arrested after allegedly attempting to steal jewelry and ‘shoes for work’

Regina Ann Carroll

A woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal jewelry and shoes from Bealls.

Regina Ann Carroll, 50, of Ocklawaha, at about noon Tuesday entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake, and was caught on store surveillance putting shoes on her feet and another pair into her purse, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

She took nearly $300 worth of jewelry and concealed it in her purse and attempted to leave the store. She was detained by store personnel.

“I did steal the merchandise because I just got a new job and needed the shoes. I know it was wrong of me. I needed the shoes for work, but I don’t know why I took the jewelry,” she told a deputy who arrived on the scene.

She was arrested on charge of grand theft. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
