Man fatally shoots himself at home of his aunt in Village of Country Club Hills

A man fatally shot himself at the home of his aunt in The Villages.

A 78-year-old woman who lives in the Village of Country Club Hills on May 19 went to a bedroom at her home on East Schwartz Boulevard to ask her 62-year-old nephew what he wanted for dinner, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When he didn’t answer the door, the aunt went into the bedroom and discovered him laying on the bed with a wound to his head. He had used a Glock 26 9mm handgun, according to the report.

The man had recently been Baker Acted and upon his release, asked to stay with his aunt because he didn’t want to be by himself in his own home. He was suffering from anxiety and sleep deprivation. He had been taking Xanax.

Lake EMS and the Medical Examiner’s Office both responded to the scene.

The man’s mother lives elsewhere in The Villages, the report indicated.
