Let’s re-examine Villagers’ adult children and guests

To the Editor:

The issue of guests visiting and using The Villages amenities needs to be re-examined and policed more closely. The pools are a primary example of outsiders taking advantage of our too lenient rules and their enforcement. However, there is, a more dangerous trend taking place in our hometown; Adult Children. This group, ranging in age from 25 to 50, have taken being a guest, to being a growing threat to the Villages peace and safety. You can read about the crime, theft and violence that takes place at our squares, and if you look closer, you find many of these incidents involving Adult Children of Village residents. These adults, have chosen to live with an elderly parent(s). Some for legitimate reasons. But some for no other reason than to use the safety of a relatives retirement home, to continue their life of crime, substance abuse and predator lifestyle.
We need to re-examine the rules that have allowed these Adult Children to remain living in our community. Maybe there needs to be restrictions placed on the real adults that harbor their “refuse to grow up children.”
If you are going to allow your adult child to live in The Villages, you need to be held responsible for their actions. If they commit crimes, then you are no longer given permission to harbor them in our community. They have to go! You can make a one time plea with your village community, and possibly get a second chance, but after that they have are evicted, no longer allowed to take advantage of us or maybe more important, you.
