Charles Walter Johnson, of The Villages, FL, was born in Detroit, MI in 1930. Charlie passed away suddenly on January 20, 2016 in his home. He is predeceased by his parents Mamie Sexton Johnson and Clonnie Vasco Johnson, brother, Clonnie Vasco Jr. and sister, Dorothy Harp.

Charlie leaves a loving wife, Ellie of 43 years, the second time around, daughter Barbara Lynn Todd (Roy) step-son Robert G. Browning (Daisy), seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Graduated in 1947 from McKinley Tech High, Washington, D.C. Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Naval Reserve. He retired from the Government Printing Office as Manager Buildings Division in 1985. Charlie’s family moved from Detroit to Maryland in the 1930’s. He grew up in Maryland and moved to The Villages in 2001. After retirement, Charlie and Ellie took up golf and downhill skiing and got many of the family involved. He had so much fun and loving memories with his grandchildren snow skiing, golfing and in his back yard pool. Charlie often brings to mind so many events that brought so much pleasure with his grandchildren. Charlie really enjoyed golf and was proud of his Hole in One. Charlie was loved and will be greatly missed by family, wonderful friends and neighbors.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL 32159 followed by a Funeral Service at 12 noon with interment in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers donations in Charles’ memory may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Sumter County Humane Society.
