Malfeasance and the Russians

To the Editor:

“…preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”  This is the oath, as set out in the United States Constitution, Article II, Section 8, of office that the President of the United States takes. All the members of Congress and the judiciary are required to take an oath, as set out in the United States Constitution, Article VI, Clause 3, to “support the Constitution.”
In a one month period from mid-January 2018 to mid-February 2018, Senator Johnson from Wisconsin twice released misguiding and false information that furthers the cause of Russia interfering in our countries internal political processes and undermining the faith of the American public in the credibility of the FBI and Justice Department of the United States. He has violated his oath of office by giving aid to a foreign adversary. He should be immediately brought before a board of inquiry, or the Senate Ethics Committee or the Senate Permanent Committee on Investigations. In the first instance in mid-January he insinuated that a clandestine group of Justice Department Officials plotted against the President.  This intentional misinformation was spread by Russian bots thru social media.  In the second instance, he deliberately mislead the American public to believe that President Obama was interfering with or influencing the investigation of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when in fact the email quote that Johnson published, completely out of context, was that President Obama wanted to be kept informed on the investigation of Russian interference into the United States election in 2016. I can only infer that his intent was to divert attention from the investigation into the interference by a hostile foreign power thereby aiding that interference. At the least he should be removed from office if not further prosecuted.  Note, The Constitution defines treason as “levying War against [the United States], or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” (Article III Section 2.3)
In the 13 months that Trump has been in office he has given aid to our enemies.  He has continued to deny that Russia interfered in our internal political processes.  He has failed to implement sanctions or in any way punish Russia despite legislation overwhelmingly passed in both houses of Congress. By failing to punish Russia he has given them aid and comfort  and has encouraged them to continue interfering in our internal affairs. This amounts to aiding an enemy to wage war on our country. Secretary of State Tillerson recently stated that Russia is interfering in the 2018 election and there is nothing to be done. Trump and the  administration have repeatedly failed to condemn Russia and have failed to fund or otherwise direct the resources of our country to secure our borders from Russian interference.  There should be an immediate investigation into why he has refused to protect us from a foreign enemy and why he continues to give them aid and comfort in their actions. If it is intentional, he should be impeached, and potentially tried for treason. If it is due to a mental illness, he should be immediately removed from power under the 25 Amendment.
