Oxford man arrested with methamphetamine after K-9 alerts on pickup truck

John Ellis Godsey

An Oxford man was arrested with methamphetamine after a K-9 alerted on a pickup truck.

John Ellis Godsey, 44, had been riding as a passenger in a red Toyota pickup at 7:06 p.m. Thursday that was stopped on U.S. 301 for having a trailer attached which did not have a license plate, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on the truck, indicating the likely presence of drugs.

“Godsey spontaneously stated he had methamphetamine in a baggie inside a cigarette package under his front passenger seat,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

The substance in the cigarette pack field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The Indiana native was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
